Station 07 Penang - Day One
Same as Malacca, I knew
Penang way back to my secondary school, from history textbooks to food
documentaries. There are many keywords that drew my attention, nice food, different
cultures, ancient history, and yes, street art! After I arrived in Malaysia, finally
I have the chance to go to Penang, to experience everything there.
I don’t think one day is
enough, also it is a long-distance trip, so I plan a two-day trip. Purchased the
flight ticket to Penang from AirAsia, packed my bags, started my Penang trip!
Tourist route: Day One:
Georgetown City Tour
St. George’s Church –
Kuan Yin Teng – Mirror Georgetown – Penang City Hall – Padang Kota Lama – Fort Cornwallis
– The Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower
As a matter of fact, Georgetown
is quite small for me, especially for the city center there. You may finish the
trip on foot. A very useful tip here is that, bring your sunblock and umbrella.
I got sunburn just a few hours, and it is clear that my arm got tanned even I applied
the sunscreen. Use the high UV sunblock, waterproof one is better. As Georgetown
is so small that I did not exactly follow the order as planned, just randomly
walked around, like a small discovery, life will surprise you any time.
I was really indulged in
finding the street artworks, sometimes it’s on the wall, and next time is just around
the corner. I spent hours explored in the city center of Georgetown to find
them. There is a website listed most of these artworks with the location, but
it would be more fun to search by yourself. There are too many pictures I took,
it is hard to upload all of them here, thus I made the video and post on my YouTube
channel, you may click and view it. The link is below.
Here are some
restaurants that I would recommend. There are too many nice cafes and
restaurants in Georgetown that I cannot try them all, a little bit of pity here.
Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul
Address: 27-29, LebuhKengKwee, Pulau
Pinang
Operating time: 10:00 – 19:00
Highlights: Their chendul is
the best! Among all the chendul I have tried in Malaysia, they are the best
one! There is a stall nearby, sells local food also. The laksa there is quite
nice and different from other cities.
Address: 27-29, LebuhKengKwee, Pulau
Pinang
Operating time: night
Highlights: They have a night market here. There are four famous restaurants here, you may choose
either to dine-in or take away. Dine-in will charge extra fees for seats unless
you order desserts inside. BTW, there are some durian stalls or trunks nearby, OMG the durian there is the best!!!
Hong Kee Bamboo Noodle
Address: 37, Lebuh
Campbell, George Town, 10200 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
Operating time: 08:30 – 22:00,
Wednesday closed
Highlights: Noodle is
awesome, and the beverage there is really good.
This is roughly my first day at Penang. Foods and
beverages are delicious, street arts are wonderful, I am really satisfied! Can’t
wait for tomorrow!
--- Stay tuned to my next post about the second day!
